Even if you have completed all of your basic training there is always more to learn. That is where Supplemental and Advanced Training comes in. Designed to help you keep your Scouting and leadership skills honed, these are also great chances to "recharge your Scouting batteries". The CVC Training Calendar will have addition information on when and where these courses will be offered.

Supplemental Training
Monthly Roundtable Monthly Roundtables are intended to be a gathering of all Boy Scout leaders once a month to exchange news/info, get supplemental training, learn ideas from experienced leaders, and spend time with your fellow leaders. It's your best bet to stay a well-trained and well-informed leader! Monthly Roundtables meets on the second Thursday of each month. Summer month schedules vary - check your district calendar. Please visit your district web site to find out where your district holds its Roundtable.
University of Scouting University of Scouting is a council-wide Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venture training event. Each year Boy Scout leaders meet to take courses on a variety of topics. Course topics include: the basics (for new leaders); unit management; Advancement; Camping and Hiking; making Pack and Troop meetings special, and more. University of Scouting is offered on a Saturday each fall. Registration can be done on line or through Clinton Valley Council.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is intended to make Cub leaders aware of the BSA policies on Cub camping, including how to run a great Pack Overnighter. A BALOO-trained leader is required to be present at any Pack overnight campout. BALOO is offered a couple of times throughout the year by Clinton Valley Council.
Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders (OWL) Outdoor Webelos Training (OWL) is intended to train Webelos Den Leaders on how to properly run a Webelos Den campout. OWL is offered a couple of times throughout the year by Clinton Valley Council.
Philmont Training Center* Philmont Training Center is located at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Volunteer training conferences of many varieties are held there, including Cub and Boy Scout Roundtables, Strictly for Cubmasters or Scoutmasters, Teaching Basic Outdoor Skills, and Building Strong Scout units. Scouters are selected to receive an invitation to these courses. Philmont Training Center conducts these conferences each summer. Invitations are mailed in the late fall. An invitation enables Scouters and their families to enjoy a productive conference along with a unique western vacation. All conferences begin with check-in on Sunday and end the following Saturday with breakfast.
Advanced Training
Wood Badge for the 21st Century Wood Badge is the pinnacle Scouting training course, and designed to provide a deep examination of leadership skills and techniques for Scouting leaders from all programs. Each Wood Badge course requires six full days; two weekend, followed by (not to exceed) 18 months of ticket completion. Wood Badge courses are run by the council usually once per calendar year. Training prerequisites exist for Wood Badge candidates, and registration is done through the Clinton Valley Council office. The course should be taken as soon as the prerequisites are completed.
Powder Horn Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose unit leaders to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful High Adventure program in their Troops and Crews. Powder Horn is offered at the end of each summer. Registration can be done on line or through Clinton Valley Council.
