Trails End Popcorn

What is an Ideal Year in Scouting? It’s doing all the things you and the youth want to do, like extending your Scouting year to a full, 12-month program. Whatever it is, it’s a safe bet it’s going to take money.

Your unit still has a chance to participate in this great unit fundraising opportunity. Last year 225 units earned just under $630,000 and received an average of $2,800 in unit commissions. Money that helped Scouts, parents, Scout leaders, and units to enjoy the Scouting program by minimizing the number of fundraisers held during the Scouting year. Units can earn a minimum 31% commission (one of the best in the country), an opportunity for a 8% bonus, as well as 5% in prizes to Scouts. Last year, prizes awarded to Scouts were in excess of $70,000.

Parents, by your Scout participating in the sale, it gives your Scout an opportunity to earn his way through Scouting. It also means parents are not asked to help cover Scouting expenses as often or not at all.

Some facts you should know:

  • On an average, two out of three people will buy popcorn when asked.
  • 92% of people who purchased popcorn will buy popcorn again.

Parents and unit leaders, don’t let this opportunity to cut down on the number of unit fundraisers pass you by. Take a chance and sell popcorn! If storing product is a problem for your unit, then conduct a Take Order sale only. Try the Take Order sale over a couple of weeks, a weekend, but give it a try. If your unit sells another product, give your customers an additional option to purchase popcorn from your unit.

Remember, it is not too late to sell. Parents and leaders, give your Scouts an opportunity to support themselves in Scouting. Limit the number of fundraisers your unit conducts in a year so your unit can focus on what it is there for, the Scouting program. Your Scouts just might surprise you with their success.
