These activities and events have been submitted by Clinton Valley Council Scouters as ideas that have worked well with their units. The information is a result of the compilation of the events and activities submitted and may have been edited or combined with other submissions. This list is being provided as a service to the units in Clinton Valley Council and the Clinton Valley Council does not endorse any of the businesses listed below.

Name of Activity or event: Amazing Corn Maze
Subject or focus of the activity or event: Family Fun, Map and Compass
Appropriate for: Packs
Description: Fun event for the whole family in October. Daytime suggested, evenings maze is set up as Haunted Corn Maze for Halloween. The evenings are not age appropriate for all scouts. Bring your own cider and donuts for the Pack, or have dens bring a picnic lunch. Den Leaders can prepare early and set a route for boys needing to earn map and compass. Perfect for this achievement. All the way around great fun for the whole family. Petting farm, Hay mountains to climb, and hay rides.

Name of Activity or event: Fishing and hiking
Subject or focus of the activity or event: Get the scouts outside and having fun

Description: I have taken fairly long hikes with Dens out on existing trails in the Ortonville Recreation Area. There are miles of trails that have many different terrains. You always see something rememberable. Fishing of any kind, from shore, dock or a pontoon boat is number one on our Cubs list of activities they want to do. You can provide simple cane poles, worms and enough people to bait and remove fish and you will be busy all day.

Name of Activity or event: Hocking Hills State Park - Ohio
Subject or focus of the activity or event: Hiking, Caves, Waterfalls, Cliffs
Appropriate for: Troops
Description: Camp in youth area, visit Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave, Conkles Hollow, Rock House, and Cantwell Cliffs. State Forest Rappeling area near by.

Name of Activity or event: Bruce Peninsula
Subject or focus of the activity or event: Hiking, Backpacking, Cliffs, Caves, Georgian Bay, Boat Ride
Appropriate for: Troops Crews
Description: Camp in one of three group sites. Hike or backpack the Bruce Trail (warning - the trail is very demanding, boulder beaches). Visit Indian Head Cove, the Grotto, and Overhanging Point. May take boat ride over sunken ships to Flower Pot Island.

Subject or focus of the activity or event: Backpacking, Canoeing, Train Ride
Appropriate for: Troops Crews
Description: Beautiful wilderness to backpack or canoe in. Limited to groups of 9 in the interior. May take the Algoma Central Railroad into the interior. See Troop 185 picture in the March/April 2004 issuse of Scouting Magazine.

Name of Activity or event: Bike Rodeo
Subject or focusof the activity or event: Bike safety & skills
Appropriate for: Packs
Description: Several "stations" with various bike activities: ride a straight line, throw "rolled newspapers" to clothes baskets on either side of curvy path, figure-8, how to repair a tube, helmet safety, road signs, hand signals, and such. Parents may have access to pylons, safety signs, bike pumps, tube repair materials, first aid kit, etc--borrow & return. With advance notice, a bicycle-based police officer may be able to visit the event. Also, a bike shop employee might be willing to help out. There are lots of online resources for this type of event. FUN!

Description: The Cranbrook Institute of Science offers a variety of interactive science programs that fulfill pin or badge requirements for scouts of almost any age. Topics range from physics and chemistry to environmental science.
