Future Metropark Events for Lil’ Brave Segments: These events are totally sponsored and conducted by the Huron - Clinton Metropark Authority and are recommended by the CPT Committee as great opportunities to earn appropriate Lil’ Brave segments.  Dens, packs, and troops select and schedule the timing of their own CPT events, taking into considerations the few annual events that CPT Committee conducts each year. Here are some specific events between June 2008 and January 2009 where Lil' Brave segments can be earned.

Chief Pontiac Trail Committee sponsored events significant to the 50th anniversary year celebration: The events below are sponsored by the Chief Pontiac Trail Committee and have historically received a large Scout family turnout of 1, 200 to 1,700 attendees for the day’s events.  Plan ahead for the weather and see the appropriate flyer for more detailed information or see your District CPT representative.

Saturday, June 14, 2008, Camp Agawam - A special 50th anniversary celebration of the Chief Pontiac Trail.  Get a chance to talk with adult Scouters that were some of the original members of the first Boy Scouts that hiked the inaugural hike of the Chief Pontiac Trail on June 14, 1958.  Early 1960’s era backpacking gear; special awards presentations and a chance to purchase the special edition of the CPT 50th anniversary flint knocked arrowhead patch with it striking gold color and contrasting color features. Make sure that you get a piece of the special 50th birthday cake to make the celebration complete. Will you be around for the 75th CPT anniversary in 2033?  Start your memories at this event; a chance of a lifetime experience to recognize the first 50 year history and heritage of the Chief Pontiac Trail experience.

Sunday, October 5, 2008 Kensington Metropark “Chief Pontiac Trail 50th Anniversary Hike”. This is a great way to celebrate the outdoor portion of the Chief Pontiac Trail’s 50th anniversary festivities. The event will occur either rain or shine. The exact route is being coordinated with Kensington in order to handle what is expected to be a very large attendance of current Scouts and Scouters that are new to the Chief Pontiac Trail. We also expect to have many Scouts that hiked the trail in the late 50’s, 60’s , 70’s and 80’s that moved on after high school to college, military service or careers and now have families of their own. Expect to have Scouts from neighboring councils also on the 50th anniversary hike that day. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime experience of Chief Pontiac Trail heritage

CPT Committee supports Ft. Pontiac usage with FORT, a new training program in blacksmithing and period life skills.   In April, eight CPT Committee members attended a full weekend training class in Kalamazoo to become experienced in how to train 10 to 14 year olds in the art of blacksmithing and metalworking. This training supplements the life skills that were taught last March on how to bake in the adobe oven and how to improve in open fire cooking skills.  Additional training was given in the Wood Shoppe on how to fabricate wooden lanterns and use specific hand tools to make a “tombstone” slide-together chair.  Don’t miss the next FORT Training weekend of October 3, 4 and 5 that has a specific syllabus for the hot forging and cold hammer fabrication.  Each adult student will become certified in specific usage areas of Fort Pontiac.
